Beaufort, South Carolina is a beautiful town (remember, it’s pronounced Bew-fert). I thought Charleston was pretty, but it just wouldn’t quit in Beaufort.
Beaufort, SC (17-Oct-2012)
We’d only stopped in on October 17th for a quick visit and some lunch on our way from one “gunkhole” to the next. I didn’t feel like I could take it all in, it was so pretty.
I took pictures compulsively because everything was beautiful. I’ll bombard you with them now.
I took a great number of this type of “view-from-the-water-house” shot, but I’ll stop here ’cause I took too many pictures of nice houses when we got to shore. Apparently, Beaufort was a centre for luxury homes before the Civil War, and was one of few southern cities spared from fire after the war was over, making it an architectural treasure.
You have to understand that this was a small sampling of the beautiful homes we walked past in under an hour.
On to the gardens and moss-draped trees.
The live oak trees were probably the most impressive. I’ve maxed out the pictures in this post already, so I’ll save the oaks for our Savannah post.
‘Til then…
Wow! Your photos are so beautiful. I do the same thing when walking around in different places, taking a pic of every home, yard, front door etc. Thanks for taking them and sharing. We’re really enjoying your blog and pics. The yard at the NSC is filling up for winter storage. Crane haul out is this coming weekend. Always a sad time because winter is coming. Continue to sail safe. Patricia & David
Thinking of you as Hurricane Sandy moves closer…stay safe and keep in touch!
Thanks Kally – we’re battening down the hatches in Jekyll Island, Georgia. Will keep you posted!
I agree with Kally . . . stay well tied up behind a breakwater as winds with Hurricane Sandy will be strong. Be safe.
