We were back in Annapolis yesterday and managed to get together with our friends, Wendy & Burry on s/v Seahawk. We met them in Kingston before we left in September. They’ve been cruising the Eastern Seaboard and the Bahamas on their Island Trader 41 for a few years, and we’ve benefited from their great advice.
Yesterday, we also benefited from their Top Climber.
On our way across the Chessapeake Bay from Tangier Island on June 21st (I think it was) our main halyard snapped, which meant going up the mast to re-rig it.
Last time mast-climbing was required, Phill fashioned his own Bosun’s Chair out of rope and seat cushions.
Here’s a picture of my view of Phill up the mast…
He definitely had a better view from where he was…
We flipped it end-for-end and successfully re-rigged the existing halyard, and used the main without any problems getting from Anapolis to Baltimore yesterday afternoon.
Totally amazing. I get dizzy just looking at the shots from up the mast. So good you are or have done this while so fit and able to perform all these tasks. As seniors there is no way would be able to do this but we have benefited from your blogging of this trip. So thanks for bringing us along this way on this wonderful trip.
Stop breaking stuff and get your butts to NYC! Independence D’Eh? celebrations and much anticipated Muppet/Rubble catch up await!! xop
Welcome back to our end of the world guys. I can’t believe how fast the year has flown – I am really going to miss having my coffee with your blogs.
Climbing up the stick, eh! What a view!!! Hope you you guys are OK and get good weather for the rest of the trip. You’re living my dream! Although I followed you journey I didn’t e-mail as often as I could. It was more fun reading your stories than commenting on them.
May the wind be at you all the way!
