Monday the 9th of March was our first full day in Syd (as the locals call it), and it started like this. We dug out the rain gear and bought an umbrella (which wasn’t cheap – there is nothing cheap in the CBD (central business district), it seems other than sim cards and data plans).
We walked around, got some coffees and Phil got a local sim card. $25 for thirty days of unlimited local and international calls and texts, and I don’t remember how many gigs of data – more than we’ll use, definitely. You need to have your passport with you to buy any telecom related product or service here, FYI. A photo of it will not do, so Phil had to walk back to the apartment to “collect” it, as they say here.
We walked around for hours and hours. Here’s a sampling of the local architecture…
A post with a sampling of Sydney architecture would of course be incomplete without a few shots of the Opera House. I’ve seen photos of it taken mostly from the water, so it was cool to see it from the wharf.
It’s actually more beige in real life than I imagined. Here’s a close up of the tiles that clad the building.
We also toured the The Rocks neighborhood and the Royal Botanical Gardens, but I’ll save that for the next post.
